NORWEGIAN FILMS with English subtitles

 

Norwegian Films offers a great opportunity to see contemporary (and sometimes classical) feature films, documentaries and shorts with English subtitles at the Norwegian film institute. The screenings will take place almost every Friday at 4.30 p.m in the renovated cinemas Tancred or Lillebil. Free tickets might be collected at Filmens Hus from Wednesday same week as the screenings.

Friday April 23 : MIRUSH

Director : Marius Holst. Screenplay : Harald Rosenløw Eeg and Lars Gudmestad.  Production Company Spillefilmselskapet 4 ½ A/S.

The young boy Mirush leaves Kosova hoping to find his father again in Norway. The father abandoned the family when Mirush was very young. Now he runs a restaurant in Oslo, but he is also in deep debt to the Albanian Mafia. Mirush starts to work in the restaurant and gradually they learn to know each other. But  Mirush also discovers bad and painful things about the father,  that will have large consequences for both of them.
This is Marius Holst’s third feature film. It has participated at many International  festivals and  received the Main Award at the Mannheim Heidelberg Film Festival  in Germany.

Ole Bull was Norway’s first superstar, as composer and violin viritous. His conquered the world while his wife and children were neglected. He was the violin King who seduced both women and audience, in Havana, New York and many European cities.  He was the great idol of his times, and struggled for the independence of Norway. This year we celebrate the 200 year’s Anniversary of Ole Bull.

Director : Hans Petter Moland. Production Company: Paradox AS Cast : Stellan Skarsgård, Jannike Kruse Jåtog, Bjørn Floberg, Gard Eidsvold, Jan Gunnar Røise, Julia Bache Wiig, Jorunn Kjellsby, Bjørn Sundquist.

Ulrik is a somewhat gentle man. He has killed some people and crippled a few. But his sort of stuff is part of the job when working in the criminal world. Now he is out from prison. And some new people are waiting for him… The film participated at the Berlinale this year and was honored with the Audience Award by the Berliner Morgenpost.  A huge sucsess now  ready for promotion in more than 20 countries.

Cast : Charlotte Frogner, Stig Frode Henriksen, Vegar Hoel, Jeppe Beck Laursen, Evy Kasseth Røsten, Jenny Skavlan, Bjørn Sundquist, Ane Dahl Torp.

The group of friends had all they would need for a sucsessful Easter vacation : Cabin, skis, snowmobile, copious amounts of beer and a fertile mix of the sexes. Certainly, none of them had anticipated not returning home alive! However, the Nazi – Zombie battalion haunting the mountains had other plans… The film has been sold to many countries after the premiere last year at the  Sundance/Slamdance Festival.

Friday May 21: TOGETHER

Cast : Fridtjov Såheim, Odin Waage, Evy Kasseth Røsten, Kristine Rui Slettebakken, Marianne Mørk Larsen.

A family of a father, a mother and their son is looking foreward to go on vacation. On the way they experience an accident, and their lives are suddenly and unexpectedly turned upside down. The film is a story about a father and his son’s journey through a landscape of sorrow. The son refuses to give up hope and fights bravely to get his father back to real life again. The film was selected for last year’s San Sebastian festival in Spain.

Lina and Martin are smuggling cheap booze from Sweden across the border. At a roadblock they are told to take a detour, due to an accident. Deep inside the Swedish woods their car suffers a tire blowout and they seek assistance….. The unreal world begins.

A small boy races through the woods. Blinded by fear he crosses a desert road without noticing the truck that speeds along it. A series of events are thus set in motion, events that will deprive another little boy his entire family. As the boy’s eyes meet in the woods, their destinies part.

As young children, the half-siblings Axel and Yanne are adopted to Norway. They are separated on arrival, he to material wealth on Oslo’s West side, she to an average family on the East side. In contrast to her younger brother, Yanne remembers their journey to Norway.  But she has no idea where he might be now. A beautiful multi-plot drama awarded at many festivals since the premiere last August.
